Awesome Photography!! [27 Aug 2008|11:39pm]

My name is Crystal and after I graduated ECU with a photo degree, I decided to start my own business here in Greenville. My focus is Fine Art, including body painting, underwater photos, erotica, boudoir, and any crazy idea you can think of.

Currently I am looking for a female model with a toned body to do some body painting for my portfolio. It would be nude, but the photos would be tasteful Fine Art. I would pay you by giving you a cd of the finished photos. If interested PLEASE E-mail me!

I want to start an art revolution in Greenville!

I also specialize in portraits of all types, senior photos, families, pets (I LOVE pets and have done work for the humane society), modeling, bridal, engagement, and I will also do weddings!

I am a photoshop expert, so I'm beginning to give lessons in my craft. Adobe photoshop lessons, as well as digital scrapbooking, also if you just need to know how to use a SRL Camera i can help you out.

Graphic Design is also a big part of today's society, and my ability to turn a concept into a great piece of work is amazing! Album Covers, Band Photography

I would absolutely LOVE for you to check out my website
( http://ckimages.ulmb.com ), and tell me what you think of my work!

I also have some work for sale at Ripple City (downtown Greenville) if you are interested in buying prints.

Framed pieces run from $100-$150 and prints, $15-$60

Please feel free to ask me any questions you might have, and please please please check out my website, leave feedback, schedule appointments, spread the WORD, or just look at some amazing local art!

"I'm Still Waiting" [03 Jun 2008|04:50pm]

Mark Kano has a rough cut of "I'm Still Waiting" over on his Myspace.

Now I'm still waiting for that full album to come out... rather impatiently, at that. Rough cut it may be, but what a great song.

the return of Mark Kano [09 May 2008|12:17am]

[ mood | cheerful ]

there hasn't been much to update in terms of Athenaeum or it's former members in the last couple of years by Mark is finishing up his first solo album in North Carolina right now. it's being produced by Mark and Mike Garrigan at Mike's new studio.

I think the aim is to get it out this year.

should be great.

I hear it's pretty different from Athenaeum. and it's got "Calling Saturn" on it which is an amazing amazing song that Mark wrote back around 2001

should be a great record!

[22 Mar 2006|01:45pm]

I kept seeing banner ads for a new benefit CD, "Songs for Sixty-Five Roses," but I never paid them much attention until I saw a banner on Mike Garrigan's site.

The tagline "NC Artists. NC Songs. One Great Cause." caused me to click on over to the site, where I was hit in the stomach with the following:

Randy Travis'
"Forever and Ever, Amen"
performed by Athenaeum

Sure, there are some other songs I can't wait to hear performed, like James Taylor's "Shower The People" and Ryan Adams' "Oh My Sweet Carolina," but Athenaeum...

They recently posted snippets of each song on their site. Click on an entry, wait a second, and 15 seconds of bliss will float through your speakers. But that voice...

Proceeds from the show benefit the cystic fibrosis foundation. John Plymale, a bastion of the North Carolina music scene, found out that his daughter has the disease, and decided to put together a benefit CD to further research. She refers to it as "sixty-five roses," hence the name of the CD, as I suppose cystic fibrosis is a bit of a stretch for a five-year-old. Needless to say, bands he's worked with over the years were more than willing to lend their support, bands like Athenaeum...

It's no secret the place Athenauem has in my heart. However, you might not know the place that Randy Travis has. You see, I was raised by my dad on Jimmy Buffet, James Taylor, and Marshville, NC's own Randy Travis. And whether you're a country fan or not, I think everyone can agree on the tremendous lyrical merits of "Forever And Ever, Amen". I mean, any song that carries on its sleeve such universal truths about love, you have to have a heart of stone to not appreciate it. And now, one of my favorite bands is covering one of my favorite songs to benefit a worthy cause... How can I not tear up thinking about it?

The CD same out yesterday. "Songs For Sixty-Five Roses," in stores everywhere (check the compilation section), benefiting the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. If you don't feel like parting with a few bucks for Allie Plymale, then do it for all the others with the disease, and for your own listening enjoyment and personal well-being.

- - - - -

As I write this post-script to these earlier words, the CD is spinning happily in my CD-ROM drive. It's sunny in Charlotte, for the first time in a few days. I don't think that's a coincidence.

And the song itself? Absolutely amazing.

- - - - -

We hope the money raised will help develop new treatments for the awful disease. As parents, we need to know that we did everything we could to help our loving daughter. She is such a kind, gentle soul who deserves to live a long, wonderful life. We are doing this to help make sure she does." -John Plymale

I'm gonna love you forever, forever & ever amen
As long as old men sit & talk about the weather
As long as old women sit & talk about old men
If you wonder how long I'll be faithful
I'll be happy to tell you again
I'm gonna love you forever & ever, forever & ever Amen
-Randy Travis/Athenauem

"...cry, cry cry cry, I'm gonna cry myself blind..." - Primal Scream [08 Jan 2005|04:00am]

[ mood | crushed ]

Having pulled out and played through Radiance recently, I had to ponder what I've been missing since.

A- I've been signed onto the email list for ages...yet I get none.

B- I NEVER saw nor heard the post-Radiance album, and I worked for a large music chain at the time it came out.

C- I like Nic's bio rendition, I do, but I REALLY want a more laid-out factual synopsis as well, especially something catching up to now-ish.

D- I recall an offering for a re-issue of the Green album some time back (probably the last time I had word from you guys and such), but was unable to do anything about it at the time, how long ago WAS that?

E- dammit...I have to move down to North Carolina, don't I? (fair enough, I know a girl who goes to UNCG anyway).

F- I could name scores of bands with more recognition and less talent than you guys, and I know you can too. Please, tell me I don't have to suffer forever.

G- half of this would have been posted on the message board, but it doesn't work.

Jon Ettinger
Linden, MI
that's what I JUST mailed to mail@athenaeum.net. It bounced back telling me markkano@earthlink.net couldn't be reached.

I've lost and found this band SO often...it's sickening.
First was seeing them live w/ Semisonic in 1998. Bought their t-shirt and they all signed it (except one, Grey, who was first to leave after that).
sadly picked up the CD at a store after, if I recall correctly, and not at the show. I remember talking briefly with each of the other three...starting to picture it in my head, something I've not thought about in YEARS.

and then it all dropped.

much time passed and I found my way to athenaeum.net 'round near the time of the re-release of the green album...which I wasn't able to get at the time and still don't have.

and that's it. I still get out and play Radiance from time to time (it kills me just how brilliant it really is)
was going over it to copy files to send to a girl, though it turns out she already knows and loves them (she's from NC and goes to UNCG).

anyway...can someone start to fill in the blanks? what's left of the official site doesn't give much to go from.

thanks very much.

[13 Dec 2004|01:34pm]

I haven't given too much thought lately to Athenaeum's impending break-up; I suppose part of me became numb when Phish parted ways. But the end is here, and it all begins this weekend at Amos'.

What about the future of these guys? I know MG's band has been gearing up for some time, but I just don't see the camaraderie with that group as I do with Ath fans. I can't help but wonder why that is.

Point is, I'm going to be missing some Athenaeum.

I'm determined to make this Saturday's show a fun one. So, with a little help from former Message Board members JP Knight, Chris Bowen and Erin Sellers, we're going to party like it's 1999. Bring your dancing shoes everybody; let's turn this frown upside-down and make the best of a situation that could've been better.

And if you're going to the Ath show this Saturday, be sure to introduce yourself to a stranger, especially the really drunk ones. Chances are, you know us from the former Message Board. We're a lot of fun, I promised... and we won't bite (unless you ask).

homemade sticker anyone? [19 Feb 2004|05:02pm]

i won't go into how freaked out i am to be blindsided by the recent news (i obviously haven't been paying enough attention to message boards - zeke's tribute was like lightning this morning), but i will say that i'm coming to terms with the fact that i'm never going to get an official sticker now. so i'm going to the store tonight, buying vinyl bumpersticker paper, and making my own. it'll be on the small side, 1ish" by 7ish", and to keep from wasting paper i'm probably going to tile seven or eight of them on the page. so, does anyone want one of the extras? it'll look something like thisCollapse )
all i'd ask for is a self-addressed stamped envelope for me to put it in.

Goodnight, Step into the Spotlight [18 Feb 2004|09:20pm]

[ mood | sad ]

L to R: Alex McKinney, Grey Brewster, Mark Kano, and Nic Brown

I don't know what to think about it
It's just something that's been on my mind
If the mood ain't right, you might say goodnight
Leave me here in this shallow bedroom
- "On My Mind"

It's only a matter of time
You're gonna find your peace of mind
- "Away"

Mark Kano and Mike Garrigan

Cause you leave me higher
Than I could ever say
- "Unnoticed"

And the music played softly
As you whispered a word
I had to sigh and catch my breath
From what I had heard
- "No One"

And if you ever feel uptight
I'll make you wholesome and I'll make you right
- "Comfort"

L to R: Alex McKinney, Mark Kano, Nic Brown, and Mike Garrigan

Hold on tight cause I don't wanna say goodbye
anymore than you do
- "Waiting For You"

And I'll need you to remind me
And I'll need one more day
Without you somewhere out there
I could not find my way
- "Walk Away"

Yesterday's a memory for you and me
How would it feel to be young again?
- "Young Again"

L to R: Mark Kano, me, Jeremy Vogt, Mike Garrigan, and Alex McKinney

And if these things pass
I would break the hourglass
Just to make the moment last for you
And if I had one wish
I would take us both from this
To a place where only you and I exist
- "Hourglass"

It's just a sad song saying goodbye.
Sad enough to make you cry.
But even sad songs say it's alright.
It's alright.
- "Sad Songs (Say It's Alright)"

L to R: Mark Kano, Alex McKinney, Nic Brown, and Mike Garrigan

But I miss your face as you can tell
I hope my absence makes you well
- "What I Didn't Know"

1990 - 2004

***Sorry to crosspost like this from my personal journal... I couldn't think of a more fitting way than this...***

the party can start now... the party has arrived [23 Sep 2003|11:39pm]

hello all... this is Jon Wells to those that don't know me... and those that do, know that second in my heart, right behind my Vermont boys, is some Athefrickinaeum.
Specifically, I'm all about some "No One" and, of course, "If You Want Me To." Favorite album, gotta be "Radiance." Live song? Simple: "Crawling Back To You." And Mike G. Yeah, Mike's the Man. And so is Mark, and Remy and Mike #2, but MG started it all. And yes, I ramble.
But anyways, my apartment is pretty much "homebase" for every Athenaeum show in Charlotte, so if you're ever in the mood to meet fellow Ath fans, either post on the boards or IM me (weekapaugphan, of course) and I'll set the gears in motion. Fun times always ensue when tons of people with awesome musical taste gather...

Intro [04 Aug 2003|04:50pm]

[ mood | happy ]

Hey, I'm Jennie. I've been an Athenaeum fan since I heard "What I Didn't Know" on the radio. I don't know a single other Athenaeum fan, so I'm very happy to have stumbled upon this community. I love all their stuff, but if I were forced to pick a favorite, it would be "Waiting for You."

Hooray for the new community... [01 Jul 2003|07:07am]

[ mood | tired ]

Glad to see another Ath community all over again... Jess and I were talking about sacrificing one of my codes and making this ourselves, but congrats for the effort...

My name is Adam, I post as "Zeke" on the boards, and have been an Ath-o-holic since summer of 2000 when I bought Radiance from a guy at a flea market for only a buck. Best buck spent in my life. I'm the Florida fan, and was able to catch them before the end of the Alex years (Come on Jess, you know you want to comment to that) back in November when I found out they were in Deland, Florida, opening for Stroke 9 at Stetson College... (Read all about that show here). I'm also a college student at UCF, and moderate a community for the college here on LJ...

As to anything else Ath related, I also am a solo musician, and in my sets, I throw in Ath/MG covers from time to time... I know how to play a good number of their songs, and usually throw in "Sour Milk", "Gravity Affects Me", "October", "Flat Tire", or "Radiance", but also know how to play "What I Didn't Know"...

Looking forward to meeting more of y'all, and will see you further down my friends page...

... no one feels like we do ... [30 Jun 2003|10:35pm]

lindsey told me about this new community for athenaeum worship, and i couldn't stay away. just like the night we drove four hours, just so an underage me could join them at the blind tiger. that was when i heard my all time favorite song, no one, for the first time live. and i melted ...

last summer, i was making a cd to remind me of high school, and my best boyfriend said, "you'd better put some athenaeum on there!" radiance was the soundtrack to my life, in the feelings the music holds, and because it was constantly playing in the background. my car only had a tape player, and the only cassette i had was radiance, of course. we've drifted apart in the five years since i first heard them, but i've seen the band three times since then, and that was just in the last year!

fear not, i'll be posting a lot more here in the near future! props to zooromancer for this fan-home

yay!!!!!!!! athenaeum is a kick ass band...mmmm i <3 them sooo much!!!

oh, the awful first post [30 Jun 2003|12:43pm]

this is going to look terribly lonely up here by itself, but i swear the community is less than an hour old. i set this baby up because i miss the old community. what the heck happened to it?! not that it was terribly active, but at least it was there (we all know we wear our communities like identification badges). anyhow, having seen athenaeum recently (it simply doesn't happen often enough) i'm back on my rampage against the injustice of not living close enough to the triad and i want company. so join my infant community and feed me news about the boys. better yet, feed me pictures!
i guess this is an intro post about me personally, as well, so: hi, i'm lindsey, i'm 22, i got into athenaeum when the lovely dukeshedevil said "hey, this band went to my highschool, so LISTEN to them." that was followed by going to v-jam in 1998(?) and thinking, "hey...this sounds familiar." thus it was born and i've attempted smack-dab-in-front-of-mark's-mic at every opportunity since then (which is sadly only five times) the most recent of which was in columbia, sc. i just got my first boot three days ago from jason k and i'm estatic. i wish there was a bigger trading scene since all of our persuasion and flat out begging has yet to produce an official live cd. woe to stupid production costs. what else? ah yes, my fav album song is "spotlight" and my fav live song is "sweeter love." what's yours?
